Pictures of Helga in training, and after registration

April, 2005, Mom tried on this hat and cloth to see if I tolerate wearing clothes. I definitely had something to say about it, but it was *pleasant*. (grin)

At this point, I had no idea that Mom was contacting people to see about some *interesting* work for me! She was on the internet alot doing research and ordering tons of books while I napped at her feet.

I went on my first visitation at the Stonebridge Nursing Home / Rehabilitation Center located outside of Duncannon, Aug.1st. I loved the attention and had kisses for everyone!

Everything was so new to me, and they had resident animals, too. An old collie, a couple cats and birds. I never saw birds in cages before, the keets were noisy.

Sept. 2005 at the Children's Theatre stage at Knoebels Park in Elysburg, Pa.

We went to Knoebels Park in Elysburg,Pa. Wow! I never saw so many people and things! Mom said it was *for training*, socialization, but it wasn't training for me! I wanted to see and smell everything. Over 30+ different people talked to me and petted me. Lots of kids came up and loved petting my long ear hair. Some people knew I was a GSD, but others called me a *Wolf-Dog* Mom & Dad just smiled.

Mom took this picture after my first visit at Perry Village in New Bloomfield, Pa. on Sept.19th. I only did a walk-through for a little. I met some very nice people. Afterwards, Mom put me in a sit-stay outside by the flowers. It was the only time I was still the whole visit. I'm almost 1 yr. old, and Mom says I'm turning into a teenager with all the energy to boot!

This is a second picture Mom took of me at Perry Village on Sept. 19th. She said I looked so cute, she had to also include this one on my progress page.

When I got home, I was so tired from the excitement that I took my afternoon nap early at Mom's feet while she worked on my pictures for this page.

We started a drawing, 9/26/05, residents that wanted to have their pic taken with *moi* put their name on a paper and put it in a bowl and I picked out the winner! Eveyrone thought that was a cool trick for me to pick a paper out of a bowl, but we all know that I love taking paper out of mom's wastecan. We will do the drawing each time I go in until *everyone* wins!

March 11 & 12, 2006 PawsAbility function at the Farm Show Building. We had a wonderful time with the many many dog families that came. It was a good experience and socialization for us. Mom says we are going next year, can't wait!

April 2nd, Helga & I had our Therapy Pet orientation at the Claremont Facility with KPETS. Helga had to pass several tests of petting anywhere, hugs, wobbly crutches, loud noises, obedience, etc. There were 20+ people there and other dogs to be tested too. Helga did very good and had fun.

No picture available yet, April 19, 2006 Helga had her first group obedience class. Well... she showed she was still in her teenage phase. Amazing how the week before, you see pictures of how good she was among so many dogs and people... but tonight wasn't a good night for her. The energy in the room was high and that fed her spirit. When another dog would yip or do something, Helga wanted to pull over to them and give them a piece of her mind. So.. we still have lots of work to do! We will live thru this teenage phase!
April 23, 2006 Helga and Popsicle had their first supervised visits / evaluations with KPETS evaluator, Laura. Both did just great. I am so proud of the both of them. There were 2 other dogs during the visits and everyone got along fine, and did great visiting the residents at Stonebridge together. I was very happy the *mature* Helga was there, and not the teenage princess. (grin)

May 8, 2006 is a momentous day! Helga had her 20th visit at Stonebridge. This doesn't count the other places/times she has visited. She was an excellent visitor and gave lots of kisses. We are very pleased with how the morning there went. Click to see picture enlarged.

May 13, 2006 at 11 a.m. Helga passed her final evaluation and is now a certified Therapy Dog! We put an official KPETS therapy dog scarf on her after it was all over. We are thrilled! She and Popsicle are now certified therapy pets, actively visiting Stonebridge and Perry Village.

May 24, 2006 Helga graduated and got her certificate for her obedience class! She proudly wears her party lei and we have her certificate hanging on the wall. Very good girl!

August 1, 2006 was Helga's 1 yr. anniversary visiting Stonebridge. Unfortunately we were in a dangerous heat wave with the heat index between 105 and 110 so we couldn't do any visits this week. This is a picture of Helga in our cool basement, escaping from the heat.

August 7, 2006. One week late for Helga's 1 yr. Anniversary, but we got there this week!  She had some very nice visits, seems there are always new residents admitted, so she gets to meet new people all the time. She has kisses for everyone!

Helga was part of the Compassionate Care Hospice Staff Meeting on April 12, '07, in Middletown, Pa.. They presented some of the Therapy Pet Teams to the group. Helga made new human friends and doggie friends. She has her picture in their new Pet Therapy brochure!
